STRUGGLING

“Sometimes the limits we impose ourselves are more devastating then the ones others impose on us, real or imaginary. Our imaginary fears are our golden cage. This work reflects on that, the luxurious coziness of trying to liberate ourselves, and advance our causes and plans, but where would we go once the freedom of movement is achieved? What about internal freedom? Photography as a medium is motionless, and movement is at the core of everything I do. So photography is an interesting medium for me since the medium and my ideas have almost opposite forces. All my images are moving, but they are ultimately still. Stuck.” – Nuno Roque on ‘Struggling’ and ‘The Stuck In Luxury Body’ works.

This work integrates an Identity-themed series of performative self-portraits.
Chromogenic print on photo paper.
