My Cake

While having his portrait painted, a young child discovers the image others have of him does not match the one he has of himself.

My Cake is a musical and satirical response to the proverb “You can’t have your cake and eat it too”. It evokes themes such as ambition, identity, society’s pressure to conform and the obsession to control one’s image. Written as a mise-en-abyme, the viewer never knows where reality lies.
